Where Orange-Tech can help

Planning New Laboratory Automation

Before approaching suppliers, establish which steps can be automated and what a successful run must demonstrate. We translate sample types, batch sizes, timing constraints and operator interventions into requirements that suppliers can quote against.

Integrating Instruments & Workflows

A liquid handler, robot and reader may each have a working interface. We define how they exchange plates, commands and status during a run, then agree who will verify each handover and how operators can recover a stopped sequence.

Assessing Underperforming Systems

When a workcell repeatedly needs manual intervention, we review the intended sequence alongside run records and operator observations. We distinguish equipment faults from scheduling and interface problems, identify supplier responsibilities and prioritise corrective work.

The engineering behind reliable laboratory automation.

Consider an assay with a fixed incubation window. The liquid handler can finish dispensing on time while the reader is still occupied. Before deciding how many plates to release, the scheduler needs to account for reader availability, transfer time and the permitted delay for each plate.

If a transfer stops, the controller needs to establish where the plate is and whether dispensing has already occurred. The recovery sequence should preserve the link between sample, well and result, including when an operator removes a plate.
